Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
It is widely recognized that the evolution of diatoms in the oceans has resulted in massive changes in the global biogeochemical cycles of silica, carbon and other nutrients. These elements also regulate ocean productivity and ultimately climate on Earth. However, little is known about how dissolved Si concentrations from biological uptake has changed in the oceans with the evolution of diatoms. The major goal of this research project is to investigate the role of geobiology and its effect on global biogeochemical cycles and how they have evolved through Earths history.
The research will utilize stable isotope measurements in fossil material from deep time together with supporting geochemical and geological proxies measured in sediments/rocks. The geochemical data will be used to explore the changes in the environment and oceanic dissolved Si concentrations through time and how they have effected the oceans and ultimately climate.
Job assignment
The position will be part of a creative and varied environment in a dynamic interdisciplinary research group which studies the effect of geobiology on global biogeochemical cycles (ca. 12 people). The Research Engineer will be responsible for the operation of the Biogeochemistry laboratory, which includes responsiblity for lab safety, risk analysis and the handling of chemical wastes according to Lund Universitys guidelines, and for ordering supplies for the group.
The Research Engineer will preform laboratory analysis to support the research project and will be responsible for a SmartChem discrete analyser and for measurements of 210Pb using gamma spectroscopy. The Research Engineer, in addition to documenting data in the project, will be involved in the analysis and discussions of the results with other researchers.
The Research Engineer should be able to take initiative, work well with other people, is structured and flexible. The position offers possibilities for professional development and for the acquisition of new skills. In our research we will use new approaches, which encourages independent thinking.
