The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The appointment is for the time being with any probationary appointment, and full-time. Start by agreement but preferably as soon as possible.

The position as a GIS-expert combined with other relevant academic background is located at the Center for Primary Health Care (CPF). The CPF is a dynamic research platform at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), a vibrant and inspiring science environment in Malmö's beautiful hospital area. The CPF is a collaboration between Region Skåne and Lund University.

The research at the CPF is funded by Region Skåne (including ALF funds) and external sources such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the European Research Council (ERC) and the Swedish Research Council. The CPF's overall mission is to carry out world-leading research within primary care as an active exchange of knowledge between academia and primary care. The research is conducted in collaboration with researchers at Swedish and international universities and is dealing with major chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, psychological ill health, and women’s and children’s health) and the health effects of migration and socioeconomic disadvantage.

We are now looking for a well-qualified GIS-expert who also has another relevant academic background in, for example, statistics, demography, or economy. The position is based within Professor Kristina Sundquist's research group. Her research group has a long-standing collaboration with a number of leading international universities, e.g. Stanford University, Mt Sinai, and Shimane University in Japan, where the examination of neighborhood effects on health has had a central role.

Work duties

Geospatial data need to be integrated with other data sources (such as administrative registers from Statistics Sweden, The National Patient Registers, Primary Care data and Geographical data on neighborhood environments stored at Lund University) as well as spatially analyzed and disseminated to our researchers at the Center for Primary Health Care in a user-friendly way. Geographic location is often crucial in policy making, impact assessment and health care planning. By displaying data on maps it is possible to analyze spatial health patterns and conduct geospatial analysis based on a large number of data sources.

The GIS-expert will be responsible for our geographical databases, i.e., database management and collaboration with authorities that are responsible for national geospatial data in order to update data used for spatial analyses. The GIS-expert will also integrate more traditional data sources with new data sources.

As we are interested in a person who also has other skills in addition to GIS-expertise, other work tasks will also be included in the work duties depending on the applicant’s specific background.

Qualifications

Special eligibility for admission to the position will be an expert in GIS who also has another suitable academic background in, e.g., statistics, demography, or economy. We will also consider applicants with such degrees who have a documented knowledge in GIS. The applicant must have good knowledge in English in speech and writing corresponding to English B at Swedish upper secondary school. This is because the applicant will be communicating with our international colleagues at different universities, mainly in the U.S.
