Work description

A PhD-position is available for computationally driven investigations of polymer-based materials for organic electronic applications. We are looking for a highly talented and motivated PhD-candidate to computationally characterize new polymer-based materials for advanced organic electronic applications such as organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Theoretical investigations of structural and electronic properties of light-harvesting polymers and advanced polymer-based materials such as polymer-polymer blends will be conducted at an atomistic molecular level using modern quantum calculations together with emerging capabilities to carry out large-scale material simulations. The research will be directed at making accurate computational predictions of the properties of complex new polymer materials, specifically including heterogeneous films such as polymer-polymer blends and with a strong focus on achieving a comprehensive understanding of fundamental structural and electronic properties. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental collaborators developing and characterizing new polymer-based materials.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented candidate in the field of computational chemistry. A successful candidate for the PhD-position must have a thorough university education in chemistry, physics, material science or similar, providing a strong scientific background in molecular and material properties. A strong background in theoretical molecular and materials science at an advanced level, as well as a keen interest in cutting edge computational investigations of material properties is required for this PhD-position. Excellent analytical skills and an exceptional aptitude for carrying out the full range of aspects associated with advanced computational research and associated research training are essential for successful completion of the PhD-studies. A keen interest in material properties in a broader sense including also experimental aspects, as well as a strong ability to work well in a collaborative team, are also required as the computational work is carried out in close collaboration with experimental groups synthesizing and characterizing new polymer-based materials. A high level of proficiency in English (oral and written) is required to work in the international research environment. The applicants should provide their CV, publication list (if available), description of any research experience, motivation letter to apply for this particular position, and ideally one or two academic recommendation letters with the detailed contact information to the persons providing the references.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
