Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
The Biology Department has a history back since Lund University's foundation, with botany as one of the original subjects. Today we are a large department that covers most of the biology disciplines. We also collaborate across disciplines with other researchers from medicine, engineering, physics, chemistry and philosophy in our search for new knowledge.
The Biology Department cooperate with other universities and authorities to organize and publish data and results from biological research. We host parts of a national infrastructure in form of a database where we collect, process, publish and archive data about animal movements. We also have important long term missions within Swedish environmental monitoring, funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and carried out by researchers at the biological department.
Our mission to develop management of research data from the activities described above requires the development of new IT system components. These components are used to create effective data flow, proper validation and good quality of collected data. The IT system will also provide project management support, generate reports, create data visualizations and implement web services for distributing open data. To be as efficient as possible, we re-use existing open source solutions when possible. Among our partners are other Universities and the Swedish Natural History Museum.

As a programmer, you will be responsible for developing software components for managing biodiversity research data in collaboration with researchers and IT staff both locally and at other sites. We build our solutions as modules in the free and open software "Living atlases", originally "Atlas of Living Australia", an international software project focusing on managing public research data. You will also work on managing our research databases. We develop in open source with open tools and high standards of documentation.
This is a position limited to a duration of 1 year and full time.
