Subject
The subject covers industrial design, with a particular focus on model making and prototype building.

Subject description
The design programmes educate students for a professional career as creative actors and co-ordinators within a broad spectrum of knowledge to arrive at designs that can be applicable to many situations. These design proposals can be of physical or non-physical nature. The major aim is to educate self-directed artistic individuals, who are capable of developing their own perspectives and forms of expression, and who can assume authorship of their own work and contribute to a sustainable development.

Work duties
Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Teaching in model building and prototype design
  • Course development and course responsibility within the subject area
  • Assisting the students with advice regarding design, construction, production and material issues

Contribute to developing the education at the basic and advanced levels.

  • Participate in quality assurance of the education
  • Supervision of degree projects
  • Co-operating closely with the workshop instructors and being an active driver of the development of the ID-A workshop
  • Work for a broader exchange of knowledge with other programs at LTH, and externally with the outside world
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements
Appointment as a artistic lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • Completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge and has other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve
  • Demonstrated teaching skills
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, if there are no specific reasons

Additional requirements

  • At least 5 years of practical experience as an industrial designer or hi-end model maker in the field of Industrial Design or Architecture out of which a minimum of3 years must have been outside of the university context
  • A master degree in industrial design or equivalent
  • Documented artistic and professional expertise that is considered relevant with regard to the subject matter and work duties of the post
  • Vast experience in model making with traditional machines
  • Vast experience in model making with new technologies
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, in speech and writing

Assessment criteria
For appointments to lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Good subject knowledge of relevance to the post and the duties it will involve.
  • Good teaching ability including a good ability to develop and pursue teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Very good professional experience or other experience of relevance to the post.

 Other assessment criteria:

  • Intercultural awareness and competence (preferably from earning university degrees or working experience in another country).

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
