The department of Food Technology, Engineering and Nutrition at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a position as Associate senior lecturer in Food Engineering with a focus on sustainable food process engineering.

Subject description
The research subject Food Engineering, with a focus on sustainable food process engineering, focuses on development of food processes being more effective compared with tradional methods in the use of raw materials, energy and water consumption. It is therefore a field spanning from the harvest through food processing and food quality to nutrition and health. The research subject address five of the 17 global goals in Agenda 2030, with special focus on Good Health and Wellbeing, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Climate Action.

Work duties
Employment as an associate senior lecturer is a career development position and aims for the holder to develop his or her independence as a researcher and educator. The work duties mainly involve research and teaching. The position shall include the opportunity for five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. Workduties include the following:

  • Research within the subject area
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements
Appointment to associate senior lecturer requires that the applicant has a PhD, or acquired corresponding research expertise.

Priority should be given to applicants who have completed their degree or acquired the corresponding expertise no more than five years before the last date for applications.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish.
  • Documented experience of communicating with industry, public authorities, and the wider society.
  • Type B drivers license.

Assessment criteria
For appointments to associate senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct research of high quality.
  • Teaching skills.

Other qualifications:

  • Completed courses in training in higher education teaching and learning, corresponding to at least five weeks.
  • Capacity to secure research funding.
  • Ability to co-operate with industry, small and medium sized corporations, and other actors using practical and theoretical working methods.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervision students in first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • Experience in processing of plant based materials.
  • Experience in various unit operations such as: drying, emulsification, separation, and extrusion.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Consideration will also be given to ability to co-operate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 6 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 12a§ HEA.

Promotion to senior lecturer in Food Engineering with a focus on sustainable food process engineering
During the period of employment, an associate senior lecturer can apply for appointment to a permanent position as senior lecturer if he or she has the required qualifications listed below, and is deemed to be suitable.An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements:

  • Good ability to co-operate, independence and drive.
  • Development of research and teaching expertise.
  • Ability to actively, independently and successfully seek external funding.
  • Ability to contribute to innovation and regeneration of the organization.
  • Ability to supervise/assist in the supervision of students at different levels.

Assessment criteria
For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.
