Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The research at the division of Solid State Physics is focused around different aspects of semiconductor physics, ranging from materials science to quantum physics, to different applications. The division also leads NanoLund, the major interdisciplinary research environment within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University. Lund Nano Lab is a central key facility for fabrication of material and devices on the nanoscale. The division is also heavily involved in the undergraduate education, especially within the “Engineering Nanoscience” program.

For more than a decade, our research within the area of one-dimensional semiconductor structures, so called nanowires, has been at the international forefront. In particular, our research in bio-nanoscience has played a key role in establishing the field of using nanowires for probing cells and steering cell behavior. Work duties
Research within nanostraw-assisted molecular delivery into hematopoietic stem cells. The researcher will fabricate nanostraws and test  them for delivering molecular cargos in human hematopoietic stem cells. The cargos will target genes, the ablation of which lead to enhanced self renewal. The delivery of the cargo will be enhanced by applying short low voltage electrical pulses to enhance cargo transport through the nanostraws and into the cells.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience with Nanofabrication, especially atomic layer deposition and reactive ion etching
  • Experience with working with nanostraws
  • Experience with CRIPSPR based editing of primary cells
  • Experience with human hematopoietic stem cells
  • Experience with flow cytometry

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
