Job description
The post comprises teaching and research in Media and Communication. The successful candidate will conduct research and teach the subject at undergraduate and graduate levels. The position includes a minimum of 50 percent research and a maximum of 50 percent teaching and administration which should relate to and strengthen the departments research profile.

In addition to conducting high-quality research and education in Media and Communication Studies, the successful candidate is expected to be able to take responsibility for the development and administration of study programs and courses in the field of Communication and Media in general. Teaching may include tasks/courses in quantitative as well as qualitative methods.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements
We are looking for a qualified co-worker who will be part of developing our education and research profile. To be eligible for the position as Associate Senior Lecturer, the prospective candidate must have been awarded a PhD in Media and Communication Studies or have the corresponding research competence. Priority will be given to those who have been awarded a PhD or achieved the corresponding research competence within five years prior to the deadline for application. Ability to conduct independent research and to participate in international research collaboration is a very important eligibility criterion. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate documented good teaching skills. Proficiency in English and to be able to teach in English is a requirement. Please note that already at the very start of the employment, ability to teach in Swedish or another Scandinavian language is required. Cooperation and collaborations skills are required and must be substantiated on request.

Basis of Assessment
The assessment will attach equal importance to a) research experience and skills, and b) teaching experience and pedagogical skills. The applicant should be able to demonstrate documented pedagogical skills that are designed in a way that makes it possible to judge the quality of the work. Teaching experience in Media and Communication Studies is particularly important. When assessing the scientific skill, special attention will be paid to international publication. Furthermore, the ability to interact with the surrounding community is taken into account to be able to inform about research and development work and experience of work in interdisciplinary context.

Promotion
An associate senior lecturer shall be promoted, on application, to an indefinite-term post as a senior lecturer if he or she is qualified for the post and is judged to be suitable in an assessment of the application in accordance with the eligibility and assessment criteria laid down by the faculty for promotion to senior lecturer and listed in the vacancy notice/person specification. An associate senior lecturer may only apply for promotion once. An application shall be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences within three and a half years of the start of the candidate’s employment.

The general assessment criterion is that the applicant must demonstrate strong progress in his or her ability to conduct teaching and research. The assessment criteria for promotion are in this case that the applicant has demonstrated:

• well documented research competence that is of significance to the subject and duties of the post. This includes a good documented national and international standing as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to a documented ability to publish internationally.
• well documented teaching competence. Particular importance will be attached to documented skills in conducting teaching and supervision at different levels and to development of quality and breadth of teaching competence over time. The pedagogical competence must be documented in a teaching portfolio.
• progress in academic leadership through an enhanced ability to develop, lead and implement education and research and/or demonstrated leadership/commitment to duties for the department as a whole.
• documented ability to write applications for external research funding.
• good ability to interact with society and inform others about research and development work.
• other personal qualities of importance to carry out the duties of the post well.
• teacher training to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer.
• where appropriate, sufficient proficiency in Swedish to be able to teach in Swedish.
