CTG (https://www.ctg.lu.se/) is a prioritized research infrastructure at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, co-funded by Lund University, Region Skåne and SciLifeLab. At the center there is great expertise in sequencing and genomics technologies, and from a national and international perspective, the unit is at the forefront of technology with access to very powerful sequencing instruments (eg Illumina's NovaSeq as well as long read instruments, eg Oxford Nanopore GridION) and methods for single cell analysis. For high performance computations, the center uses a dedicated cluster at Lund University's super computer center (LUNARC). CTG works in close collaboration with the Center for Molecular Diagnostics (CMD), Region Skåne, in state-of-the-art and specifically adapted facilities to quickly translate research findings into patient benefits in the form of clinical diagnostics. CTG together with CMD also constitutes a full member facility within the national research infrastructure SciLifeLab (Clinical Genomics Lund, part of the Diagnostics Development platform), and is one of the leading players in the national sequencing initiative Genomic Medicine Sweden (https://genomicmedicine.se/).

CTG currently has about fifteen employees with expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics and programming/system development.

Work description

The position as experienced (senior) bioinformatician is new and can be customized together with the operational manager of the unit. The main tasks are:

  • Overall responsibility for bioinformatic routines and workflows for data from the latest sequencing techniques, including whole-genome sequencing (WGS, short and long reads), RNA sequencing, pan-cancer panels and single-cell sequencing.
  • Support researchers at Lund University with advanced bioinformatic analysis, including experimental design, data analysis, interpretation and publication.
  • Project management of sequencing projects for customers at Lund University.
  • Development of tools and workflows for bioinformatic analyzes for research and for clinical purposes.
  • Training and supervision in bioinformatics, externally and internally, i.e. both of other researchers and of other employees within the unit.
  • Opportunity to conduct own research and/or customize a role in clinical diagnostics (in collaboration with CMD).
  • Opportunity to participate in national cutting-edge collaborations in genomics and bioinformatics, eg via SciLifeLab and the Swedish national sequencing initiative Genomic Medicine Sweden.

Data analysis and internal project/data management of research projects within CTG are the primary working tasks, which will be carried out in collaboration with translational and clinical researchers at primarily Lund University and within regional health care. The work can include anything from smaller tasks (such as compiling quality control data and delivering raw data) to in-depth analysis where you have overall responsibility for the bioinformatic aspects.

Requirements

The applicant shall have:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) from appropriate research field (ie with bioinformatics and genomics as a base) or equivalent (at least 4 years) work experience or advanced studies in bioinformatics, from business, healthcare or academia
  • Experience in working with sequencing data (e.g. WGS, WES or RNA-seq)
  • Experience in working with a terminal based in Linux environment and in working with at least one scripting language (eg Python, Perl or R)
