Job description
The holder of this post will be expected to conduct 80% research and 20% teaching. The employment is 18 months.

The postdoctoral position is part of the research program “Legitimacy in Global Governance” (LegGov), a six-year collaboration among researchers from the Departments of Political Science at Lund and Stockholm University, and the School of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg. The program, which began in January 2016, is funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation) with Professor Jonas Tallberg at Stockholm University as lead coordinator and Professors Karin Bäckstrand and Jan Aart Scholte as co-coordinators.

The purpose of the LegGov program is to offer a wide-ranging systematic analysis of legitimacy in global governance. The program is organized around three research themes: What are the sources of legitimacy? Through what processes are global governance institutions (GGIs) legitimated and delegitimated and with what effects? What are the consequences of legitimacy (or its absence) for the functioning of global governance institutions? Within these core themes, the program examines how legitimacy dynamics in global governance are similar to or different from the dynamics of legitimacy in the nation-state and other forms of governance.

The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a group of LegGov-researchers based at Lund University that studies processes of legitimation and delegitimation. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to conduct survey experiments to assess the conditions under which legitimation and delegitimation practices succeed or fail in impacting legitimacy beliefs related to global governance institutions. The postdoc will also be expected to contribute to analysing a large set of Twitter data on global governance institutions that has been collected during 2019.

For further information on the research program, see http://www.statsvet.su.se/leggov/

Qualifications
Eligibility for employment as a postdoctoral researcher is restricted to applicants with a PhD degree in a relevant subject. Priority is given to applicants who have completed their PhD less than three years prior to the deadline for applying to the post. The three-year limit can be extended in cases of parental leave, sickness leave or similar circumstances occurring after the PhD defense. Applicants who have yet to complete their PhDs are welcome to apply but should demonstrate that they will receive their PhD degree no later than on the first day of employment as postdoc.

The most important qualification for the position is the capacity to contribute to research using survey experimental methods. Experience of other relevant quantitative methods is an additional important qualification. Research skills and academic promise will be the main selection criteria, but teaching skills will also be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English and the ability to teach in English is a requirement. The candidate must have demonstrated excellent skills in academic written English. The ability to conduct research independently and the ability to participate in international research collaboration are very important considerations.

Your application must contain (a) a cover letter including a statement describing the qualifications that would allow you to conduct the research specified above, (b) a CV, (c) one or two article-length writing samples (approximately 8000-10 000 words), at least one of which should be single-authored, (d) two letters of recommendation.
