The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is one of eight faculties within Lund University and includes Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy, also Inter Arts Center and Choral Centre South. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts offers Bachelor and Master programs in visual art, music and drama, and various courses of different extent. The Faculty also runs third cycle (postgraduate) studies in artistic research and music education.

The position is situated in the Performance and Church Music programmes.
The position is for a fixed time of five years.

Subject description
To lead and develop the Master’s programme in Music, Composition Diploma, at the Malmö Academy of Music.

Work duties
The position of professor of composition involves:
- teaching composition in the first and second cycles, individually and in groups, and to lead and develop the composition programme,
- supervising independent projects,
- representing the Malmö Academy of Music’s composition programme to strengthen the standing of the academy in national and international networks,
- working to strengthen the collaboration between the Malmö Academy of Music’s composition programme and wider society,
- initiating collaborations within Lund University and with other higher education institutions,
- conducting artistic development work/research within the subject.

Qualification requirements
The requirements for the professor of composition are:
- a music degree in composition or other higher education qualification in music,
- documented artistic expertise at an international level,
- documented teaching expertise in higher education,
- significant production of artistic work within the subject,
- leadership experience,
- good ability to communicate in English in speech and Writing,
- at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Assessment criteria
The following assessment criteria apply to the appointment of a professor of composition:
- A very good international standing as an artist within the discipline. Particular weight is given to artistic excellence at the international level.
- A very high level of teaching skill, including a very good ability to conduct, develop and lead educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
- A good ability to lead students in artistic programmes to artistic independence.
- A good ability, in general, to lead and develop the activities, which includes good communication skills and ability to collaborate as well as an ability to strengthen the subject within the organisation.
- A good ability to engage with wider society and communicate his or her activities. This work involves experience of work in international networks within composition education.
- A good ability to work autonomously.

Attention will also be given to a good ability to collaborate, commitment and initiative. It is also important that the applicant, through their experience and expertise, be able to continue reinforcing the subject at the academy as well as contribute to its future development, nationally and internationally.

Additional qualifications
It is desirable for the applicant to have experience in administrative and artistic roles in music and cultural life, nationally and internationally.

Knowledge of Nordic languages is also an asset.
