Lund University announces a 6-month research project assistant in cognitive semiotics with a specialization in polysemiotic communication, 100%, at Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University. General: Cognitive Semiotics at Lund University is a relatively new discipline, combining theories and methods from semiotics, linguistics and cognitive science, in the transdisciplinary study of meaning and sense-making.

Job description:
The assistantship is part of the Swedish Research Council-project POLYSEM: Polysemiotic communication: Integrating language, gesture and depiction in three cultural practices. The tasks include (a) recruiting participants and collecting data for two studies in Sweden (b) coding the gestures in video-recorded data collected for the studies in (a), and in addition such data collected in Paama and Central Australia, using the software ELAN. The applicant must attend an intensive training in the form of a workshop with other project members and collaborators from 2019.01.13 to 2019.01.17 and a second workshop from 2019.06.22 to 2019.06.26.

Criteria:
By the start of the position, the applicant must have
(a) a complete or nearly complete MA thesis in cognitive semiotics, focusing on gestures
(b) previous experience in gesture coding as an assistant in a research project, and
(c) advanced command of the software ELAN.

About the Centre for Languages and Literature
The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution specialising in languages, linguistics, comparative literature and area studies. SOL offers a large number of independent courses complemented by a growing number of undergraduate and graduate programmes. With 36 subjects and some 30 postgraduate programmes, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in teaching and research and is distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board of which the Head of Department is chairman. In addition, there are three Assistant Heads of Department with special operational responsibilities.
