Research group

The position is located at the Epigenetics and Diabetes Unit at Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC), which is a world-leading research environment enabled by strategic grants from the Strategic Research Foundation (SSF) and the Swedish Research Council (EXODIAB; Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden). LUDC has platforms for epigenetic research, next generation sequencing and functional studies together with unique human cohorts.

We are hereby advertising for the position of a postdoctoral fellow. The position is full time for two years with the desired starting date set to 2020-03-01.

Work duties

The overall objective is to identify and develop novel high-quality genetic and epigenetic biomarkers of clinical relevance that predict, monitor progression and forecast response to treatment of T2D and CVD. The applicant will perform statistical and bioinformatics analyses of genome-wide human genetic and epigenetic data. He/she will also establish optimal sub-cohorts for analyses of data by using databases. The applicant will also perform replication of genetic and epigenetic results. Data and results will be summarized and the postdoc will write manuscripts.

Qualification requirements

Requirement:

  • PhD.
  • Good knowledge of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and epigenetic and genetic research.
  • Good knowledge in computer programming, bioinformatics, statistics and mathematics.
  • Experience in bioinformatics and statistical analyses of genome-wide DNA methylation data generated with microarray and WGBS as well as RNA-seq data.
  • Experience in analysis of data related to novel subgroups of metformin response and type 2 diabetes.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and the ability to write and publish papers.

Required characteristics

Good ability to collaborate with other researchers. Ability to work independently and develop bioinformatics pipelines. Ability to supervise others in bioinformatics and statistics.

Required qualifications: The applicant needs to have a PhD within the field of the position received maximum 3 years before the deadline of this application. Special reasons may apply that change this time.
