Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The research at the division of Solid State Physics is focused around different aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to biophysics, to different applications. The division also leads NanoLund, the major interdisciplinary research environment within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University. Lund Nano Lab is a central key facility for fabrication of material and devices on the nanoscale. The division is also heavily involved in the undergraduate education, especially within the “Engineering Nanoscience” program. For more than a decade, our research within the area of one-dimensional semiconductor structures, so called nanowires, has been at the international forefront. More information is found at: www.ftf.lth.se and www.nano.lu.se

Work duties
The research engineer will contribute to the development of nanowire surfaces for the detection of biomarkers such as antigens in blood serum. Fluorescence microscopy will be used to compare different types of functionalized surfaces with respect to their ability to detect low concentrations of fluorescent molecules. The work duties include:

  • microscopy,
  • image analysis,
  • sample preparation by biochemical methods as well as surface coating and/or etching.

The work will be carried out in close collaboration between academy and companies.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • a PhD or equivalent experience in research and development within the subject of the position,
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English,
  • experience in microscopy,
  • experience in image analysis,
  • experience in using wetlab (biochemical) techniques.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • experience in semiconductor processing, for example cleanroom work,
  • experience in fluorescence microscopy,
  • experience of doing research in collaboration between university and companies.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
