Work assignment
One research area within the Division of Nuclear Physics, Department of Physics, concerns the nuclear structure and stability of superheavy atomic nuclei. New measurement campaigns are scheduled for 2020 and 2021 at the accelerator facilities GSI at Darmstadt, Germany, and LBNL in Berkeley, US. The applicant is expected to take an active role in the preparations and conduction of these experiments, followed by data analysis and interpretation. Physics conclusions are drawn in close collaboration with the nuclear structure theory group at the Division of Mathematical Physics in Lund.

The applicant will take specific responsibility for the final installation of an upgraded silicon-detector system for implantation and decay of superheavy nuclei at GSI. This task is tackled in close collaboration with PhD students and senior researchers in Lund as well as at GSI Darmstadt. The position implies regular foreign travels.

Further academic qualifications can be provided by access to scientific data from previous experiments, as well as opportunities to engage in various teaching activities to add to personal pedagogic merits.

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in experimental nuclear structure physics. An explicit research background in the field of “experimental nuclear spectroscopy of heavy and superheavy nuclei” is decisive. Documented work with radiation detector development, multi-parameter data acquisition systems, conducting nuclear spectroscopy experiments and analysing corresponding data sets as well as scientific publications in the area mentioned above are required. Technical know-how and handling of encapsulated germanium detectors is required. Very good oral and written command in English is required. Readiness for extended foreign travel is expected, likewise the ability for clear communication within large international collaborations. Teaching experience at university level is considered as additional merit.
