Specialization
Intelligence analysis

Work duties
The work duties associated with the position mainly consist of research and teaching within the subject field of intelligence analysis. Some teaching within peace- and conflict studies and general political science may occur, as well as teaching within commissioned education. The position includes at least 50 % research and up to 50 % teaching and administrative duties. Teaching takes place in both Swedish and English.

Qualifications
A person who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree in political science from abroad, or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, shall be considered eligible for the position of associate senior lecturer. Priority will be given to applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Grounds for assessment
The grounds for assessment are the general degree of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise of significance to the subject content and work duties of the advertised position, and the applicant’s general abilities that are significant satisfactorily to carry out the work duties associated with the position. Research expertise as well as teaching expertise is assessed. The applicant’s ability to independently plan, develop and implement research and education of high quality within the subject area is considered very important. The applicant shall be able to teach in both Swedish and English, whereas very good knowledge of Swedish and English is required. The department has a collegial approach to work and sees the teaching staff group as a work team that is collectively responsible for the quality of education and for educational development. A good ability to cooperate and a willingness to work together in a group is highly valued.

Promotion
An associate senior lecturer may, on application, be promoted to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The application must be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such employment will be assessed through a review of the progress they have made during their appointment with regard to research and teaching, focusing on the following criteria:

  • Well-documented research expertise. This includes a proven high standard as a researcher. Special emphasis will be placed on international publication.
  • Well-documented teaching expertise. Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s proven ability to conduct teaching and supervision at various levels of study, and that how the quality and breadth of their teaching have developed over time.
  • Progress in academic leadership through an increased ability to develop, manage and conduct education and research and/or demonstrated commitment/leadership in university-wide duties.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to departmental activities.
  • Documented ability to draft applications for external research funding.
  • Good ability to interact with wider society and to inform about research and development work.
  • Teacher training to the extent required for appointment as senior lecturer. In the assessment of qualifications for a senior lectureship, equal attention will be paid to the applicant’s teaching and research expertise.

Applicants shall indicate in their list of publication the maximum 5 publications to which they principally wish to refer. These publications shall be attached to the application. The applicant must also include a research plan (approx. 2–4 pages) stating what research the applicant intends to pursue during the employment as associate senior lecturer.
