Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The research at the division of Solid State Physics is focused around different aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to biophysics, to different applications. The division also leads NanoLund, the major interdisciplinary research environment within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University. Lund Nano Lab is a central key facility for fabrication of material and devices on the nanoscale. The division is also heavily involved in the undergraduate education, especially within the “Engineering Nanoscience” program. The last 2 decades, our research within the area of one-dimensional semiconductor structures, so called nanowires, has been at the international forefront. Work duties
We have developed a method for creating nanowires using aerosol methods, called Aerotaxy. To make these wires useful as biosensors, a new wire material (gallium phosphide) needs to be developed. We are now announcing a temporary position as research engineer, in a project closely related to a newly started company. The work duties are to develop the wire growth process to achieve the desired materials with high optical quality, in collaboration with the other researchers. Among the tasks are:

  • wire growth using Aerotaxy,
  • statistical experiment planning,
  • electron microscopy and image analysis,
  • other materials characterization, e.g., photoluminescence.

The work is performed in close collaboration between University and company.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • MSc degree or equivalent in physics or chemistry
  • A few years’ experience in research and development within the subject of the position
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Experience with fabrication of semiconductor nanowires
  • Experience with statistical process control
  • Experience with several characterization methods for semiconductors, e.g., SEM, PL, EDX.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor processing, for example cleanroom work
  • Experience of doing research in collaboration between university and companies.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
