The position is placed within the project The cradle of avian cognition - the sociality of extinct dinosaurs, which is finaced by the Swedish Research council.
The project compares the social cognition of crocodilians and palaeognath birds in order to discern the evolution of social cognition in the dinosaur lineage. crocodilians are the closest living relatives of birds (and hence dinosaurs), and palaeognath birds are the least derived of all birds alive today. These two groups bracket the extinct non-avian dinosaurs as close as possible. The project focuses on basic social cognition, such as gaze following and social learning as well as on mapping the social repertoire of these animals.

A bachelor or masters degree (or its equivalent) within animal cognition, comparative psychology, animal behaviour, behavioural ecology or an equivalent area.
Assessment basis
The selection process will primarily take into account the applicants’ ability to benefit from third cycle studies. This is assessed from the criteria quality, quantity, progression and relevance.
The application must include:
- records of first- and second-cycle studies (Ladok transcript or other transcript of courses and grades)
- first- and second-cycle theses/degree projects
- a list of other relevant administrative and educational qualifications
- scholarly journal articles, reports or papers of relevance for the subject
- where applicable, documented skills in a language of relevance for the research studies
- project proposal (1500 words max. excluding references)
