We are now looking for a assistant researcher in protein bioinformatics. The position is full-time for two years according to a central agreement on a fixed-term employment as a assistant researcher. The desired start date is April 1, 2020 or by agreement.

The research group
Protein Structure and Bioinformatics group investigates genetic and other variations and their effects on DNA, RNA and protein, on structural, functional and other levels. We have developed several of the most reliable variation effect predictors like PON-P2 and PON-MMR for variant pathogenicity, PON-Sol and PON-Stab for molecular effects and PON-mt-tRNA and PON-BTK for molecule-specific predictions. We use and develop bioinformatic methods to reveal the significance of the variants especially in the relation of diseases.

Resposibilities

The assistannt researcher position is available to develop prediction methods for variation interpretation and analysis of large genomic data sets. The main task is development of machine learning algorithms to address consequences and mechanisms of variants related to massive genomic data.

Requirements

  • Candidates should have a PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or on a related field
  • Background in machine learning and statistics required
  • Strong background in bioinformatics, machine learning, programming, databases and data analysis is required
  • Excellent skills in oral presentation and good writing skills

The successful candidate should have experience within some of the following areas:

  • Data structures, databases, and data architectures
  • Knowledge of biomedical resources and infrastructures
  • Competences within medical statistics and statistical programming, preferably in R
  • Expertise in genomic data analysis
  • Expertise working in Unix/Linux environments
  • Knowledge about relevant areas in biology and medicine (molecular biology, genetics, structural biology, biochemistry etc.) would be beneficial
