Subject description
Design of electronic circuits for wireless communication, especially integrated circuits in the field of power amplifiers for IoT transmitters with digital predistortion.

Work duties
The main duties involved in a researcher position is to conduct research, but also teaching and some administration related to the work duties may also be included up to around 20% of working hours.

Design of radio circuits for the Internet of Things (IoT) is a popular research area, where low power consumption and high integration is a requirement. Therefore, integrated circuits with an integrated power amplifier are of high interest.

Within a Vinnova supported project, a power amplifier for a transmitter with a high efficiency needs to be developed. A technique for linearizing the power amplifier is digital predistortion (DPD). The researcher will design a power amplifier in an advanced process technology, Silicon on Insulator (SOI). In close cooperation with a company, the DPD algorithm needs then to be realized in silicon. It is important that the research leads to manufactured and measured integrated circuits. High performing measured circuits will be included in demonstrators that are developed in collaboration with the company.

Qualifications
Appointment to a researcher position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Specialization and experience in design of analog and radio frequency integrated circuits.

Other qualifications:

  • Publications in analog integrated circuit design and RFIC design.
  • Courses and projects performed in analog integrated circuit design and RFIC design.
  • Working experience in integrated circuit design and RFIC design.
  • Experience in high frequency measurements.
  • Knowledge in wireless systems.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years.
