Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
This project aims at the understanding of interactions between anisotropic colloidal particles and protein aggregates with lipid membranes. Such interactions are of great relevance in as disperse fields as materials science, nanotechnology and branches of molecular biology.
Nanoparticle-membrane interactions depend on the shape and surface properties of the particles as well as the physical and chemical properties of the lipid membrane. We have recently shown that the 2D crystalline arrangement of soft microgel colloids at the lipid membrane can be controlled by the phase behavior or the lipid membrane. ln the present project, we will study adsorption and organization of anisotropic colloids and protein aggregates at model lipids membranes. We will also investigate the possibility of particle translocation of across the membrane. The experimental studies include confocal microscopy techniques as well as scattering and surface techniques. The project will be performed at the division of physical chemistry, Lund University, and it is part of two different larger research programs funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg
Foundation.
