Subject description
The research is mainly focused on smart thermal systems and district heating, analysis and development of digital services for improved efficiency and sustainable energy solutions. This includes production, distribution, buildings, customers and customer installations, as well as the interaction between them, as well as the boundary conditions and market conditions that exist for a sustainable energy system. The focus is particularly on district heating

Work duties
The position involves participation in the EU project COOL DH, which is funded by the research and innovation program Horizon 2020. The main task within the COOL DH project consists of monitoring and evaluating two demonstration systems for Low Temperature District Heating (LTDH). The demonstration sites are located in Lund, Sweden and in HøjeTaastrup, Denmark. The position involves evaluation of the demonstration sites with special focus on energy, environment, economic and social aspects. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research and evaluation of the project COOL DH. The postdoctor is expected to collaborate with other researchers and organizations within the project, contribute to meetings, seminars, conference and journal articles, and final report of the project.

The most important tasks:

  • Conduct evaluation and monitoring of demonstration sites and installations for LTDH within the project COOL DH.
  • Reporting of evaluation of COOL DH in the form of a final report to the European Commission.
  • Publish the results of evaluation and analyzes in scientific journals and at conferences.

In addition to the above tasks, the postdoctor is expected to contribute to teaching and supervision of master theses given at the department (but up to no more than 20% of working hours). The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.The position also includes administrative duties related to the tasks described above and teaching.

Qualification requirements
To qualify as a postdoctoral fellow, one must have been awarded a doctorate, or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in the subject area and awarded within three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been passed earlier.

Other requirements:

  • Very good knowledge of English, in speech and writing.
  • Good collaboration skills, independence and personal drive.
  • Ability to actively, independently and successfully seek external funding

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career-development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merit and potential as a researcher. Special focus will be on the candidate’s scientific ability on the research topic.

When hiring, special focus will be on the following criterias:

  • Ability to develop and conduct good quality research within the research field
  • Teaching skills.

Other qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of district heating technology and district heating distribution.
  • Experience from evaluation and monitoring from an energy, environmental and social perspective.
  • Good educational ability, which means good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities at different levels and with varying teaching methods.
  • Good knowledge in Swedish in speech and writing.

Consideration will also be given to the candidate ability for good collaboration, and work and conduct research independently. Also how the candidates experience and expertise can supplement and strengthen the ongoing research within the department and ability for future development will be considered.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
