The department of Architecture and Built Environment at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a position as Senior lecturer in architecture, with a focus on digital processes.

Architecture with a focus on digital processes.

Subject description
The subject concerns digital processes in architecture, both in terms of design and fabrication, and how these affect the making of architecture at the building scale. The specialisation is in process-driven, generative design. The particular subject focus is broadly considered depending on the applicant, and is assessed based on how the applicant's research interests are deemed to align with and complement the BDM research group. Several of the following areas are likely to be part of the subject’s focus: robotic fabrication, material computation, generative design, programming, additive fabrication, cnc manufacturing, mass customisation, self-organization and emergence, deep functional integration and building physics, bio-materials, biomimetics and bioinspiration, form-active structures.

Work duties

  • Research within the subject area
  • Teaching primarily in the second and third cycles of studies
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Collaboration with other parts of the university, particularly the robot lab
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society

Qualification requirements
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

 

Additional requirements

  • A PhD in architecture or other field considered revelevant for the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience with integrated making processes including digital design and fabrication.
  • Experience with research-by-design methodology.
  • Experience with teaching archtiecture and design

 

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject.

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

 

Other qualifications

  • Experience with programming in architectural design contexts.
  • Experience with computer-controlled fabrication and robotics.
  • Experience working with and/or leading an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience with emergent or process-driven design in architectural applications.

 

Consideration will also be given to ability to cooperate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
