Subject description

We seek a researcher at postdoctoral level for a two-year position at Lund University Vision Group to work on the neurobiology of visually guided locomotion in sea urchins. As part of a Human Frontiers project in collaboration with labs in Naples, Berlin and New York, we will investigate the sensory and neural mechanisms that allow sea urchins to orient towards dark objects. We seek a person with experience in electrophysiology (extracellular and/or intracellular) of invertebrate visual systems.

 Work duties

  • To develop and perform electrophysiological recordings from all parts of the sea urchin nervous system that are involved in controlling visually guided locomotion
  • Supervision of degree students and doctoral students
  • Administration related to work duties listed above

 Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Some experience of electrophysiological techniques

 Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Experience of visual neurobiology or visual ecology, especially of invertebrates, will be considered an asset

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment

The position is fulltime, will start June-September 2020 and last for two years.
