The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Job assignments
The research will focus on nonlinear partial differential equations. The position is connected to the ERC project 3DWATERWAVES, which concerns mathematical models for water waves and stationary ideal flows with vorticity in three dimensions. The main research task is to analyse these models using methods from nonlinear functional analysis (local and global bifurcation theory, spectral theory, variational methods, Nash-Moser iteration). If the applicant wishes, some teaching can also be included (at most 20%).

Qualifications
A PhD degree, awarded (or planned to be awarded before the commencement of the project) in mathematics is a requirement. You should have a strong background in partial differential equations, preferably related to fluid mechanics, free boundaries and/or nonlinear waves. You should have the ability to plan and carry out research of high quality and this should be reflected in your publications. You should also be motivated, have initiative, be able to work independently and in groups, and be perseverant. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is a requirement.

Eligibility
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Basis of Assessment

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment will primarily be based on your research qualifications and potential as researcher. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. Here the quality of your publications plays a very big role, but the description of your research and your motivation for applying are also important. At a possible interview, your ability to orally present your research will be tested. In addition, the assessment will be based on the qualifications mentioned above.

Type of employment

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Application procedure
Apply online! Applications must contain

  • a curriculum vitae with publication list
  • a description of your research and motivation for applying for the position (at most 3 pages)
  • a copy of your doctoral degree
  • copies of other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered
  • if possible electronic copy of your PhD thesis
  • at least one letter of recommendation submitted directly by the letter writer by e-mail to erik.wahlen@math.lu.se with title ”Letter of recommendation”.

All documents must be in PDF.
