Job description
We are searching for 2-3 project assistants for the upcoming first fieldwork season of the DrivenByPollinators project in which we study the effects of pollinator decline on plant community composition and ecosystem functioning. The project assistants will be required to carry out monitoring of plant and insect communities in grassland ecosystems throughout Skåne as well as in a complementing mesocosm experiment near Lund. The work will also include maintenance of experimental setup (different kinds of net cages) as well as the collection of different kinds of plant, soil and insect material. Tasks

  • Monitor plants and insects in the field
  • collect samples of insect, plant and soil material as needed
  • Accurately label, store and process collected samples
  • Enter data on a daily basis
  • Help with the setup and maintenance of field experiments, e.g. cages

Qualifications

Required skills:

  • Experience with field or lab work in ecology
  • Excellent team-working skills and also the ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of basic field techniques of plant and insect sampling
  • Reasonable physical fitness (some sites may be hard to access)
  • Good oral proficiency in English
  • Valid driving license
     

Merits:

  • In-depth taxonomic knowledge in one or more of the following groups: grassland flora, pollinating insects, herbivores in grassland plants
  • Availability from early April to End of the season in August/September 

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, and how the applicants’ experience and skills complement and strengthen the field team.

Terms of employment

Seasonal fixed- term employment, part-time or full-time, from April to September 2020 (exact dates can be discussed with successful candidates).
