Subject description The position is part of the department´s research activities in downstream processes for biological drugs. The research is both theoretical and experimental with elements of computation and automation, and is based on close collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and their suppliers.

Work duties The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

This postdoctoral position is focused on developing integrated continuous downstream processes in the production of biological drugs, with a focus on model-based optimization and machine learning. The position involves both the development of practical process engineering and computational techniques for optimization and prediction. The work is carried out in collaboration with other employees in nearby projects and with the project's industrial partners.

Qualification requirements Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Good oral proficiency in Swedish, since part of the service involves teaching in Swedish.
  • Documented experience of model-based research work with industrial downstream processes.
  • Previous experience with computational engineering tools such as Python, MATLAB and other simulation software suitable in industrial environments.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications This is a qualification position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merit and potential as a researcher. The basis for the assessment is good ability to develop and carry out research of good quality as well as educational ability. Special emphasis will be placed on scientific skills in the subject area.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Additional assessment criteria:

  • Previous experience in process-industrial application of machine learning.
  • Experience in teaching Swedish in related subjects.  

Terms of employment This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
