The department of Building & Environmental Technology at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a position as Associate senior lecturer in Building Physics with orientation both to practical and theoretical applications.

Subject description
Building Physics with special orientation towards sustainable buildings, with good indoor environment with low environmental impact, and resource efficient materials and building Components. 

The practical part of the subject comprises the understanding of how new building materials and building components can be combined to well-function buildings that fulfil all demands mentioned above. The practical part also involve the ability to make old buildings as energy-efficient as new buildings according to the building code. To accomplish this goal a broad theoretical knowledge within the subject is necessary that embrace both the ability to apply analytical solutions within the subject and if necessary further develop numerical tools to analyse and develop solutions for new or renovated Buildings. 

The subject is interdisciplinary and involves methods, equipment and system used to develop our buildings from a building technical and building physical perspective in a competition way.

 

Work duties
The employment as associate senior lecturer is a qualifying appointment with the purpose that the holder should develop into an independent researcher and educator and to blend in in a research team and in supervising team for PhD-students. The duties primarily involve research and education but also some administrative work as responsible for our computers. Within the framework of the employment, five weeks of higher pedagogical education must be provided. 

The work duties include:

  • Research in the subject area.
  • Teaching at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate level.
  • Supervision of graduate workers and PhD-students.
  • Work on applying for external research funding.
  • Collaboration with business and society.
  • Purchase and maintenance of the department's computers and their peripherals.
  • Administration linked to the tasks above.

 

Qualification requirements
Appointment to associate senior lecturer requires that the applicant has a PhD, or acquired corresponding research expertise.

Priority should be given to applicants who have completed their degree or acquired the corresponding expertise no more than five years before the last date for appli­cations.

 

Additional requirements

  • Very good knowledge of Swedish, in speech and writing.
  • Very good knowledge of English, in speech and writing.
  • Solid knowledge in both practical and theoretical building physics.
  • Experience of teaching in undergraduate education at the university level.

 

Assessment criteria
When employing as associate senior lecturer, the following shall form the basis for assessment:

  • Good ability to develop and conduct research.
  • Teaching skills.

 

Other qualifications

  • Experience in various roles in undergraduate education at university level such as exercise leader, lecturer and/or habit of correct exam and submis­sion assignments.
  • Experience as a course coordinator in undergraduate education at the university level.
  • Experience as assistant supervisor for Master project at the university level.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in applying for external research funding.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the industry's conditions and need of know­ledge.
  • Documented experience of administrative duties.
  • Documented experience in ordering and maintaining computers and peri­pherals.

 

Consideration will also be given to ability to co-operate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

 

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 6 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 12a§ HEA.

Promotion to senior lecturer in Building Physics with orientation both to practical and theoretical applications
During the period of employment, an associate senior lecturer can apply for appointment to a permanent position as senior lecturer if he or she has the required qualifications listed below, and is deemed to be suitable. An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once.

 

Qualification requirements
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

 

Additional requirements

  • Good collaboration qualities, independence and drive.
  • Ability to guide/assist in supervision of students on different levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently use and analyse results from computer tools for energy balances, heat flow and moisture transport used in the division.
  • Ability to actively and independently seek external funding.
  • Ability to contribute to innovation and renewal of the activities at the division.

 

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise.

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The require­ment for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.
