Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Work duties
The position is within the area of theoretical few- and many-body quantum physics of ultra-cold atomic quantum gases, with special emphasis on nanostructures and trapped ultra-cold atoms. Focus is on the further development of theoretical models and descriptions of quantum droplets of bosons and fermions, by exact methods as well as phenomenological approaches.

  • Develop and extend theoretical models to simulate strongly correlated few- and many-body systems as well as hybrid systems between nanostructures and quantum-optical systems.
  • Extension of the development of dynamical few-body methods.
  • Preparation of a manual for existing codes to ensure their future availability within the research area.
  • Help with remote teaching efforts and remote supervision activities in the team
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Excellent knowledge in theoretical quantum many body physics and condensed matter theory in general; experience with theoretical modelling of quantum-mechanical few- and many-body quantum systems.
  • Experience with the development and application of numerical methodology in few- and many-body quantum physics.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
Prior experience in handling effective algorithms to describe and model different aspects of quantum many particle metnhods and their application to few- and many body nanosystems or ultra-cold atoms in traps.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
The employment time is limited to 6 month, 100% employment.

Instructions on how to apply
Applications shall be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing:
