The position as a Post-doctor aims at strengthening the research activities mainly within continuum modelling with focus on non-local formulations and multiscale modelling. The position is affiliated to the Division of Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Subject

Mechanics of materials

Subject description

Our research focuses on determining the material and structural responses to mechanical and temperature loads applied on macro-sized components through continuum mechannics solved by finite elements and peridynamics, on nano-sized structures through molecular dynamic simulation as well quantum mechanical description of materials by ab initio simulations. The research activities mainly belong to the areas of Continuum mechanics, Nanomechanics, Quantum mechanics and Multiscale modeling and their engineering applications.

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.
  • Evaluated ability to work independently and ability to formulate and address scientific problems.
  • Ability for written and oral communication.

Additional assessment criteria:

Experience in numerical modeling, especially in molecular dynamics and/or peridynamics, is meritorious Documented ability to write scientific text Ability to analyze and present results in a structured way, written as well as oral

  • Experience in Linux/shell scripting, programing in C/C++ and Python, as well as parallel computing

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
