The research group

The laboratory of RNA and Stem Cell Biology is embedded within the Lund Stem Cell Center, an internationally ranked research center within the strategic areas of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Lund University, Scandinavia’s largest institution for education and research. Our research focuses on new post-transcriptional facets of gene expression control in stem and cancer cell at a molecular, cellular and organismal level. Specifically, we are interested in the molecular basis by which RNA modifications regulate gene expression in during development and in cancer.

Research has been at the forefront in this area for several years. The group is led by research group manager Cristian Bellodi and is present by both research and technical staff. The business is located at the Biomedical Center in Lund. Here you can read more about our exciting research.

We are hereby seeking a driven research engineer to work on projects within the research group. The employment is limited to 6 months full time with the desired date of admission on 1 June or by agreement.


Work duties and areas of responsibility 

The work duties will include being involved in ongoing research in the lab aimed at studying the effects of altered RNA modifications on splicing in hematopoietic stem and cancer cells. Specifically, the applicant will be responsible for culture/isolation of primary skin/hematopoietic, embryonic/pluripotent and cancer cell lines, mouse genotyping. He/she will also employ different biochemistry methods for RNA and protein quantification including RNA/DNA/protein extraction, qPCR, northern/western blotting, RNA/protein immunoprecipitation, polysome profiling and sample prep. In addition, he/she is expected to help maintaining laboratory reagent stocks and organization. Other existing tasks within the research group may also be relevant.

Qualifications

The position requires:

  • A bachelor degree in Biomedical analysis or have further education with at least 60 credit (equivalent to a Master Degree).
  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. The position requires good ability to collaborate with others in the research group.


Eligibility for the position is:

  • Previous experience with methods for RNA and protein analysis, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, isolation of hematopoietic cells from biological material and immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Certified qualification for laboratory animal science research in accordance to the EU legislation.
