The research group

The research group for molecular pediatric oncology is working with childhood cancer neuroblastoma. We use patient-derived in vitro and in vivo models to decipher mechanisms of neuroblastoma growth, and to test novel therapies against neuroblastoma. The group is led by Deputy Associate Professor Daniel Bexell and includes both research and technical staff. The business is located in Medicon Village in Lund. We are hereby seeking a driven postdoctor for work on projects within the research group. The position is full-time for two years according to a central agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoc. The desired date of admission is September 1st or by agreement.

Work duties and area of responsibility

Mainly research-related tasks: In vitro cell culturing, In vivo procedures, drug testing in vitro and in vivo, cell- and molecular biology techniques, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and more. Documentation, Writing grant applications and manuscripts. Other tasks may be included.

Qualifications

A postdoc is a position of employment for someone who has completed a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to the doctorate degree, and who graduated a maximum of three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been passed earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trust assignments
within trade unions or other similar circumstances.

When hiring a postdoctor, the following assessment basis applies:

  • Good ability to develop and carry out good quality research and educational ability. When hiring a postdoctor, scientific ability must be taken into account.

Otherwise, the assessment is made on the basis of the following requirements for employment:

  • PhD with experience from translational cancer research, specifically mechanisms of cancer cell death.
  • Solid skills in working with patient-derived cancer models in vitro and in vivo.
  • Solid skills in drug testing in vitro and in vivo.
  • Experience in working with cancer drug resistance
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence
  • Personal abilities: Being able to work independently and to collaborate.
  • Fluent in English.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. The assignments require that you have the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Meritorious for the position:

  • Experience in childhood cancer research.
