Position Instructions

Research Focus (80% of time) will have two different but related foci: 1) Assessing to what extent large-scale development interventions by multilateral and national agencies are translated into long term socio-economic and environmental benefits for natural resource dependent communities in selected countries in the Sahel region of Africa. 2) Analysing how migration polices at various levels interact and influence such natural resource dependent communities. For both tasks, the research will focus on the use of mixed methods for assessing socio-economic and environmental impacts. Methods will include data from e.g. Earth Observation Platforms and GIS, large-scale surveys by development agencies, plans and other political instruments, and data from project appraisals by development agencies.
