Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
The research at the division of Solid State Physics is focused around different aspects of semiconductor physics, ranging from materials science to quantum physics, to different applications. The division also leads NanoLund, the major interdisciplinary research environment within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University. Lund Nano Lab is a central key facility for fabrication of material and devices on the nanoscale. The division is also heavily involved in the undergraduate education, especially within the “Engineering Nanoscience” program. In the last decade, we have made great progress in the generation and characterization of engineered nanoparticles. We are now making a strategic effort to expand our efforts in the creation of core-shell nanoparticles.
In order to design core-shell nanoparticles with desired properties, it is crucial to understand the mechanism that governs core-shell preference when two materials are mixed, that is, whether a core-shell structure will form and, if so, which material occupies the core and which forms the shell. Predicting core-shell preference is, however, still largely based on a few experimental observations and limited theoretical studies, and hence development of new core-shell nanoparticulate materials is normally built on a trial-and-error approach. This project is about using molecular dynamics simulations in order to understand the physics behind mixing of nanoparticles and to predict materials behaviour.
Work duties
The main duties involved in a researcher position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position may include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The researcher is expected to interact with the master students and the PhD students in the research group and contribute to meetings and seminars.
This specific project is focused on molecular dynamics simulations of mixing of nanoparticles. For verification, specific experiments shall be conducted.
