We are looking for an associate senior lecturer to be a part of and strengthen our teaching and research within strategic communication.

Documented experience of education, course management and research within this field is meriting. The position as associate senior lecturer includes 50% research and 50% teaching. It is expected that an associate senior lecturer shall develop their independence as a researcher and also function well in a team.

An associate senior lecturer shall have good ability to develop and manage teaching and research of high quality.

Description of the field
Strategic communication studies the planned communication by organizations to attain their goals. Research in this area creates knowledge about, understanding of and critically examines the communication processes that shape and govern organizations in society. Strategic communication is grounded in international research in public relations, organizational communication, market communication and political communication and can be studied from a societal, organizational and individual perspective. Work duties
Work duties include teaching and research. A smaller amount of administrative tasks are included.

Teaching takes place in Swedish as well as in English and both in first cycle and second cycle of studies in strategic communication. The department currently offers three programmes: Master of Science in Strategic Communication, Kandidatprogrammet i strategisk kommunikation and Kandidatprogrammet i strategisk kommunikation och digitala medier. The department also offers free standing courses.

In the position, teaching, supervision, and examination of indpendent assignments are included. Apart from teaching and supervision, the holder of the position must be able to take responsibility for development, management and administration of courses. Since we emphasize continuous quality management, an interest in pedagogical renewal and development is essential.

50% research is included in the position. The candidate shall function as an independent and active researcher, and s/he is expected to contribute to the research environment of the department. 

Qualifications
A person who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree in Strategic Communication or Media and Communication Studies with a clear focus on Strategic Communication from abroad, or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, shall be considered eligible for the position of associate senior lecturer. Priority will be given to applicants who have obtained a PhD or acquired the equivalent qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Additionally, at least five weeks’ of professional development training withing university teaching is required. Applicants must be able to teach in Swedish as well as in English.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate pedagogical ability and experience of teaching and research within the area of strategic communication.

An associate senior lecturer is eligible to apply for promotion to senior lecturer in accordance with the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

Assessment 
The grounds for assessment are the general degree of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise of significance to the subject content and work duties of the advertised position, and the applicant’s general abilities that are significant satisfactorily to carry out the work duties associated with the position. Research expertise as well as teaching expertise is assessed. The applicant’s ability to independently plan, develop and implement research and education of high quality within the subject area is considered very important. The department is rather small and has a collegial approach to work and sees the teaching staff group as a work team that is collectively responsible for the quality of education and for educational development. A good ability to cooperate and a willingness to work together in a group is highly valued.

Documented experience of teaching in Swedish, or another Scandinavian language, and English, in both speech and writing, is desirable.

Type of employment
The position is a career-development position of four years.

Promotion
An associate senior lecturer shall be promoted, on application, to an indefinite-term post as a senior lecturer if he or she is qualified for the post and is judged to be suitable in an assessment of the application in accordance with the eligibility and assessment criteria laid down by the faculty for promotion to senior lecturer and listed in the vacancy notice/person specification. An associate senior lecturer may only apply for promotion once. An application shall be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences within three and a half years of the start of the candidate’s employment.
The general assessment criterion is that the applicant must demonstrate strong progress in his or her ability to conduct teaching and research. The assessment criteria for promotion are in this case that the applicant has demonstrated:
• well documented research competence that is of significance to the subject and duties of the post. This includes a good documented national and international standing as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to a documented ability to publish internationally.
• well documented teaching competence. Particular importance will be attached to documented skills in conducting teaching and supervision at different levels and to development of quality and breadth of teaching competence over time.
• progress in academic leadership through an enhanced ability to develop, lead and implement education and research and/or demonstrated leadership/commitment to duties for the department as a whole.
• documented ability to write applications for external research funding.
• good ability to interact with society and inform others about research and development work.
• other personal qualities of importance to carry out the duties of the post well.
• where appropriate, sufficient proficiency in Swedish to be able to teach in Swedish.
