Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
We are seeking to fill a one-year position with a qualified researcher to work on developing analysis pipelines for stars in 4MOST and to study the analysis of binary stars with particular application to large spectroscopic surveys, such as 4MOST and GALAH.
Work duties
The tasks are divided in to two major themes:
1) Development and programming of software to analyse stellar spectra obtained with 4MOST. This work is carried out within the framework of infrastructure group 7 in 4MOST.
2) Develop methods for the analysis of specroscopic binary stars and to carry out such analysis as well as to study the possibilities to model these stellar populations within large spectroscopic surveys of the Milky Way.
Qualifications
We are looking for a specialist in the analysis of stellar spectra using both data driven approaches as well as physical modelling of spectra. Since the position is short it is necessary with relatively specific requirements such that the successful candidate will be able to start the work quickly.
The applicant must hold a PhD in astronomy or astrophysics. The researcher should have good, documented expertise of data driven analysis of stellar spectra. In addition, he/she shall have knowledge in physical modelling of stellar spectra. The researcher should have past or ongoing project aiming to determine elemental abundances in spectroscopic binaries.
Good knowledge of Python and expertise in programming in Python is essential.
Good scientitific merits, for example in the form of well cited publications, is a merit. Past or ongoing participation in 4MOST or similar projects is necessary in order to carry out the work.
Work inside other infrastructure working groups in 4MOST, especially IWG2, is a merit.
Application procedures
The application should consist of a short description of current researchh (max 1 page), CV and publication list.
