The department of Architecture and Built Environment at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a position as Artistic senior lecturer in architecture, with a focus on digital design processes. 

Subject
Architecture with a focus on digital design processes.

Subject description
The subject concerns digital processes in architecture, both in terms of design and fabrication, and how these affect the making of architecture at the building scale. The specialisation is in process-driven, generative design, where two-way feedback between the physical and the virtual is central. The particular subject focus is considered depending on how the applicant's research interests are deemed to align with and complement the BDM research group. The applicant should have experience in several of the following areas: robotic fabrication, material computation, generative design, programming, additive fabrication, mass customisation, self-organization and emergence, deep functional integration and building physics, bio-materials, biomimetics and bioinspiration, form-active structures.

Work duties
The work duties include:
• Research within the subject area
• Teaching primarily in the second and third cycles of studies
• Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
• Actively seeking external research funding
• Collaboration with other parts of the university, particularly the robot lab
• Collaboration with industry and wider society
• Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:
• A PhD in fine, applied or performing arts, has demonstrated artistic expertise or has some other professional expertise that is considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
• Demonstrated teaching expertise.
• Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements:
• Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
• Experience with integrated making processes including digital design and fabrication.
• Experience with research-by-design methodology.
• Experience with teaching archtiecture and design

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject equally.

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
• A good national and international standing as an artist/researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
• Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
• An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD or students on arts programmes to achieve artistic independence.
• An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
• A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Other qualifications:
• Because of the nature of the subject where both artistic and scientific perspectives are important, the applicant’s standing as a researcher within the scientific field, assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject, will be considered.
• Good ability to successfully apply for external resarch funding.
• Experience working with and/or leading an interdisciplinary team.
• Experience with computer-controlled fabrication and robotics.


Consideration will also be given to ability to cooperate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.


Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 5 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 10 § HEA.
