Subject description
The Department of Biology is seeking a researcher in landscape ecotoxicology, with a focus on biodiversity, ecosystem function, pollinators and pollination. The researcher will work in the Formas funded project “Quantifying exposure and effects of pesticides on bee to inform the integration of pollinator and pest management” and with a literature review on the landscape modifying resilience of biodiversity and ecosystem functions to pesticide use. In the empirical project, we work with analytical chemists, authorities, farmers and advisors to identify potentially harmful plant protection strategies for pollinators and identify less risky alternatives to support integrated pest and pollinator management (IPPM).

Work duties
The researcher is expected to take responsibility for coordinating and executing parts of the field experiment to evaluate alternative plant protection methods at apple growers, set up the study system, communicating with farmers and beekeepers and lead analysis and writing scientific publications based on the collected data. The work also includes communication with field assistants and there will be possibility to supervise MSc students. The researcher will also, if needed, support the other projects in the group, such as MixToxBee and AirBeeSafe.

The researcher is expected to participate in the research groups Landscape Ecotoxicology and Biodiversity and Conservation Science.

Qualifications
We are searching a PhD in ecology, ecotoxicology, physical geography, environmental science, agricultural science or similar with a strong background in research on environmental consequences of farming methods and pesticide use. Experience of conducting landscape ecological studies with focus on pollinators/pollination, preferably in apple orchards, and literature reviews are meriting, while excellent skills in written and verbal communication in Swedish and English and a driver’s license are requirements for the position. The person is also expected to be organized and be able to communicate with farmers, beekeepers and students.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, the applicant must have a PhD or equivalent degree within a relevant subject for the position. The main criteria for evaluation of candidates are scientific skills and the potential to contribute to the research project.

Terms of employment
The employment is full-time, fixed-term for 1.5 years, with the possibility for prolongation. Contact person is Maj Rundlöf, maj.rundlof@biol.lu.se.
