Biotechnology involves the industrial use of organisms, or parts of them, to produce food, pharmaceuticals or other products. Research at Lund is both broad and extensive. Important areas include the development of environmentally adapted chemicals, studies of enzymes produced by microorganisms that live under extreme conditions, the separation of biomolecules, genetic engineering, and the culture of microorganisms and control of biological processes. Molecular-biological studies are included in many of these areas of research.

Work duties This position is a part of the Era-net project MariKat from the BlueBio framework. The tasks involve cloning, production (in selected recombinant systems), purification and analysis/characterization of enzymes identified and selected in the project pipeline, to be combined with analysis of the genes to optimize the production output. The researcher will also take part in reporting results in relation to the deliverables defined in the project. Active collaboration with the academic and industrial partners in the project is expected. In addition to the tasks, specified above, some supervision of a PhD-student, and degree projects related to the research may be included.

Qualification requirements Applicants must have:

  • A PhD in Biotechnology or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience in recombinant protein production.
  • Experience in protein purification by chromatographic techniques.
  • Experience in reporting.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 1 year.
