The position
Appointment for an indefinite term as Senior Lecturer in Human Immunology, based at the Department of Translational Medicine.

Human immunology
Human immunology is the study of the immune system, including the innate and the adaptive cellular immune response in humans and its relation to disease mechanisms in patients. The subject of human immunology incorporates the study of a normal immune system in a healthy individual, the immune system in autoimmune diseases or transplantations, and how the immune system is affected by different diseases.

Duties
The position is intended to strengthen strategically important research in the field of human immunology, which is in the process of being developed at the Department of Translational Medicine. The successful candidate’s activities will be based in Malmö.
The successful candidate will establish a new line of research in the field of translational human immunology that can collaborate with, and strengthen, established research in the fields of inflammation, cancer immunology, transplant immunology and immunology of infectious diseases at the department and the faculty. The position is intended to strengthen preclinical and clinical activities in first, second and third cycle education and within research.
The position will be an important bridge between basic research and clinical translational research, the latter being highly relevant in several fields.
Clinical translational research strengthens clinical areas such as autoimmunity and oncology that have immunotherapy and transplant activities within Region Skåne.
As Region Skåne expands its activities in regard to transplantation of certain cell and organ types, it is desirable that the successful candidate has the expertise to contribute to the development of GMP facilities for clinical autologous cell therapies.
The duties include carrying out their own research and development work as well as teaching and supervision of first, second and third cycle education and administrative duties. Other duties may also be assigned.

If the successful candidate has not completed five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education when taking up the position, their duties will include completion of this training during the first two years of employment.

Qualifications
According to chapter 4, section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person qualified for appointment as senior lecturer is to have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a PhD or acquired the corresponding research expertise or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve. Teaching expertise is also a requirement. According to Lund University’s Appointment Rules, the applicant must have completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired the corresponding knowledge in some other way in order to be qualified.

Assessment criteria
The applicant is to have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of value to the subject area. Particular weight will be given to the applicant’s research expertise. Foremost, the applicant is to demonstrate documented experience in cellular human immunology with a focus on disease mechanisms. The applicant is to demonstrate the high standard of their own research within the subject and have in-depth knowledge within the area of immunology as a whole and in terms of both innate and adaptive immune mechanisms. The applicant is also to have in-depth knowledge and documented experience of working with primary human non-malignant immunological cells, tissue and modern immunological techniques and demonstrate ability relating to disease mechanisms. The applicant is to show publications at the highest international level of which the applicant is the first author and senior author. The qualifications of an associate professor and postdoctoral experience at a higher education institution other than the one where the applicant earned their PhD are additional qualifications. Proven ability to apply for and win funding in national or international competition, for example, from the Swedish Research Council is also an additional qualification. In assessing qualifications, particular importance will be given to teaching expertise in human immunology and immunology. Significance will also be attached to first and second-cycle teaching expertise and to the ability to supervise doctoral students. The applicant is to demonstrate leadership ability, an ability for external engagement and an ability for good teamwork. Strong emphasis will be placed on individual suitability.

At Lund University there is a general qualifications requirement for teaching staff to be suitable for the duties, and otherwise having the ability required to fulfil the duties well.
