Subject description
The candidate will conduct research on the societal impacts of extreme climate, focusing on integrated assessment of drought and vulnerability in Syria and its impacts in Europe. Emphasis will be on the Syrian conflict and migrations that were triggered in the aftermath of the Syrian civil war. The candidate will also be expected to develop research along similar themes of human-environment interactions and their impacts in Turkey.

• Actively seek external research funding
• Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:
• A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject area of the position
• Excellent oral and written proficiency in English
• Experience conducting interdisciplinary research that combine the natural and social sciences
• Proficiency in qualitiative methods, particularly interview techniques and political ethnography
• Experience conducting research about the Syrian conflict and resulting migrations
• Demontrated succuess in publishing peer-reviewed articles

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
• Excellent spoken and written proficiency in Turkish
Having completed an education in pedagogy
• Experience collaborating closely with physical geographers

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
The employment will be a fulltime (100%), temporary position as researcher for a period of two years (2021-01-01 to 2022-12-31)
