Work duties

The position, which is at 50%, is connected to the Lund Luminescence Laboratory at the Department of Geology. The main tasks are preparation, measurement and handling of geological samples for luminescence dating, which includes grain-size analyses, crushing, mineral separation, acid treatment (incl. HF), measurement of samples in an OSL-reader as well as sample archiving and documentation in the laboratory’s data bases. Other treatments or measurements of sediment or other types of samples (minerals, ceramics) may occur, as may supervision of students or visiting researchers in the laboratory, the latter together with the lab manager. A large part of the work is carried out in a darkroom and partly in an environment with weak radiation sources. The person is expected to be in charge of the daily running of the laboratory, including maintenance, purchasing and other general laboratory work, and together with the laboratory manager plan and develop the work in the laboratory. Occasional regional and international travel and/or fieldwork may be required.

Qualifications

  • Training and/or significant experience of laboratory work
  • Good knowledge of Swedish/Scandinavian and/or English, written and oral
  • Good competence in common office software, particularly Excel

Other merits

  • Geological education and experience of geological analyses are considered strong merits
  • Experience working with hydroflouric acid or similar chemicals
  • Experience in geochronology, particularly luminescence dating and work with a Risø TL/OSL reader
  • Education in and knowledge of radiation protection
  • Knowledge of risk assessment of chemicals and laboratory work
  • Experience of laboratory management including documentation
  • Careful, orderly, responsible and capable of independently planning and organising a flexible work are highly desirable personal qualities.

Consideration will also be given to carefulness, sense of responsibility and capability of independently planning and organising a flexible work collaborative skills, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the work at the luminescence laboratory and the technical-administrative work at the department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment

Permanent position with preferred start date as soon as possible. A probationary period of 6 months may be applicable.
