Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Division of Combustion Physics has during several decades built up a world leading activity on the field of laser diagnostics of combustion processes. The activities involve both development of a more fundamental understanding of the underlying physics of the techniques to be used as well as pure applications for measurements known accuracy and precision, e.g. for species concentration as well as temperature determination. Of essential importance for the activity are the techniques that shall be used for studies of turbulent combustion in general and gas turbines in specific. In order to strengthen the activities in this field we announce for a researcher.

Work duties
The main duties involved in the researcher posistion is to conduct research. The purpose of the work is to develop and apply different laserbased techniques for studies of turbulent combustion with strong connection to practical stationary combustion, not seldom with strong industrial relevance. The activities will be fundamental studies of these techniques as well as application together with external parties, e.g. different industries. In the work will also be included adding to the safety work in the Division.

Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Research within the subject area.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Actively seeking external research funding.
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Good knowledge in laser-based combustion diagnostics for measurements of species concentration and temperature.
  • Experience from research related to gasturbine combustion.
  • Ability to plan and execute research projects in an independent way and with external partners.
  • Experiences from safety work related to the work description.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.
  • It is an advantage if the applicant has had close research collaboration with industry.

The research is in many aspects interdisciplinary and therefore a broad competence and experience from relevant areas of physics, spectroscopy and combustion are valuable. Attention will also be paid to good co-operative ability, drive and independence and how the applicant through his experience and competence can help build and strengthen the current research area in the Division.

Terms of employment
Fixed-term employment, 1 year, 100%.

Instructions on how to apply
Applications shall be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing:

  • résumé/CV, including a list of publications,
  • a general description of past research activities and future research interests (no more than three pages),
  • contact information of at least two references,
  • copy of the doctoral degree certificate, and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered,
  • documentation on safety activities related to the work description.
