The Faculty of Medicine at Lund University is responsible for education and research in medicine, healthcare and health. The programmes are offered in close collaboration with healthcare and are deeply rooted in the faculty’s strong research tradition. Research at the faculty spans a wide field of experimental basic research, patient-centred clinical research and health science research. The Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund is one of the six departments that make up the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. We conduct basic research in a laboratory environment and patient-centred and clinical research, largely in collaboration with the corresponding departments at Skåne University Hospital, Lund.

 

Position

Permanent position as Senior Lecturer in Experimental Oncology at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund.

 

Experimental oncology the subject

Oncology is the study of cancer diseases. Experimental oncology focuses on disease mechanisms, diagnostics and therapeutic research in experimental systems, such as cell cultures, isolated tissue, animal models and humans.

 

Work duties

The position aims to strengthen the strategically important research being conducted in the field of experimental oncology, within the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund, Section 1.

The holder of the position is expected to establish and develop their own line of research in the field of experimental oncology, which can interact with, and strengthen, the established clinical cancer research. The position is intended to strengthen both preclinical and clinical activities in research as well as education at the first, second and third-cycle levels.

Duties will mainly involve research and development work in experimental oncology, for example in radiobiology. The position also requires teaching and supervision at first, second and third-cycle levels, administrative tasks and external engagement with the surrounding community. Other duties may also occur.

 

Qualification requirements

In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4, a person is eligible to be appointed as senior lecturer if they have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it will involve.

Demonstrated teaching expertise is also required. According to Lund University’s Appointment Rules, the applicant must have completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way in order to be eligible, unless there are special grounds. If the applicant is deemed to have special reasons for not having completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks at the time of taking up the position, the applicant shall complete such training within two years of starting the position.

 

Assessment criteria

The applicant must have demonstrated academic and pedagogical skills of significance for the subject experimental oncology. During the assessment, particular weight will be accorded to academic expertise. Applicants must demonstrate current research at a high level in the field and have in-depth knowledge of the subject as a whole. The applicant must be able to show publications at the highest international level, where the applicant is the lead author and senior author.

Qualifications of an associate professor and postdoctoral experience at a university other than the one where the applicant obtained their PhD are desirable. Having applied for and obtained nationally or internationally competitive funding is desirable.

In the assessment of qualifications, teaching expertise in oncology will be given particular weight. Importance will be attached to teaching expertise at first and second-cycle levels as well as the ability to supervise doctoral students.

The applicant is to demonstrate leadership ability, the ability to interact with wider society and the capacity for collaboration. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

Teaching staff at Lund University are required to be suitable for the position and to have the general ability to fulfil their work duties well.
