Job description
A researcher position is available in the area of biophysics and soft condensed matter. We shall study structural and dynamic properties of concentrated protein solutions as well as their dominating interaction forces, aggregation phenomena and phase transitions. Particular emphasis will be given to monoclonal antibodies and eye lens crystallin proteins.
The researcher will have to use experimental tools to investigate the structural and dynamic properties of various protein solutions up to high concentrations. The experimental methods include a variety of scattering experiments (such as small-angle X-ray (SAXS) and neutron (SANS) as well as light scattering) including the quasi-elastic scattering techniques neutron spin echo (NSE) and neutron backscattering spectroscopy. Our targeted goal is to arrive at an advanced understanding of the link between protein interactions and the dynamics of these proteins in highly concentrated/crowded mixtures.
The candidate will also analyse the data and closely work together with simulators and theoreticians in a concerted effort towards a better understanding of the complex solution behaviour of proteins.
The project will be conducted at the University of Lund, Sweden, at the Division of Physical Chemistry.
Qualification requirements:
- PhD in Biophysics or similar with a strong biophysicochemical background
- Experience in static and dynamic scattering techniques applied to soft and biological matter
- Experience in scattering data analysis
- Experience in collaboration with theoreticians and simulators
- Experience in neutron (SANS, QENS) and X-ray scattering experiments on protein solutions at large-scale facilities
- Experience in fluorescence microscopy techniques
- Experience in protein sample handling incl. protein expression and purification
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
