Job description

A researcher position is available in the area of experimental soft condensed matter physics. We shall study structural and dynamic properties of self-assembled responsive colloids with anisotropic shapes and interactions. Particular emphasis will be given to assemblies of thermoresponsive microgels and magnetic colloids.

The researcher will have to synthesize, purify and characterize model colloids and then study their self-assembly into amorphous as well as ordered structures. The candidate will use a variety of experimental tools for this purpose such as scattering methods (small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), 3D cross-correlation dynamic light scattering 3DDLS, X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS)) and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The microscopy experiments will also require quantitative image analysis in order to obtain detailed structural information for the self-assembled structures.

The project will be conducted at the University of Lund, Sweden, at the Division of Physical Chemistry.

Qualification requirements

  • PhD in experimental soft matter physics
  • Considerable and well-documented experience in confocal laser scanning microscopy and quantitative image analysis
  • Experience in X-ray scattering experiments (SAXS, XPCS) on colloids at large-scale facilities
  • Experience in colloid characterization with dynamic light scattering
  • Experience in synthesis of magnetic colloids
