The research group

The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Unit runs several major national and international projects focused on understanding the role of genomic and lifestyle factors in complex metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity and CVD. The Unit has led major projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, European Research Council and Innovative Medicines Initiative, several of which are ongoing. We are currently seeking to recruit one or more talented and enthusiast data analysts.

The employment is full-time and the employment period is six months. Start January 1, 2021.

Work duties

We are looking for a project assistant and the successful applicant will need to demonstrate expertise in undertaking genome wide association analyses accounting for family pedigree. A clear track-record of working with R and PLINK software and within the UNIX environment are essential. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake GWAS analyses, interpret results, write publishable manuscripts, and handle the journal submission and peer review processes.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • a Master’s degree in bioinformatics
  • experience undertaking data systems biology analyses
  • competence working with R software
  • knowledge of basic genomics and genomic annotation annotation
  • expertise in multivariate statistics
  • NGS library preparation and data analysis
  • ability to program in the Linux/Unix environments
  • experience undertaking GWAS using software such as PLINK/BOLT-LMM/Rvtest
  • proven ability to work to tight deadlines
  • willingness to provide mentorship to group members
  • eagerness to work within a vibrant team setting and interact regularly with international collaborators
