The research group

The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology (GAME) Unit is one of the largest research units at the world-leading Lund University Diabetes Center. The GAME Unit focuses predominantly on the analysis of large, complex datasets for the purposes of optimizing the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diabetes and obesity. This work is often done as part of major national and international projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, European Research Council and Innovative Medicines Initiative. We are currently seeking to recruit one or more talented and enthusiast data analysts.

We are now looking for a senior bioinformatician for a fixed-term employment of two years and full-time. The desired access date is January 1, 2021 or according to agreement.

Work duties

Applicants are expected to work in a supportive role for the group leader, Professor Franks, and other members of his team in a range of projects, including those carried out solely by the GAME in collaborating large international collaborations. The work is in biostatistics and / or bioinformatics, with experience in "combining multiomics datasets" including array and sequence data for gene expression and DNA methylation and metabolomics as well as "in silico functional annotation". Depending on limitations related to COVID-19, the applicant will spend most of their time on site, but national and international travel for training, conferences and project meetings may be necessary.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • a PhD in relevant quantitative sciences
  • at least 2-years post-doctoral experience working in bioinformatics
  • good English language spoken and writing skills
  • excellent grasp of R (ideally also Stata). Familiarity with other programming languages such as Python, C++, or PEARL is also necessary
  • knowledge of network biology, protein-protein interaction networks and system biology approaches

Highly desirable:

  • proven ability to work to tight deadlines
  • willingness to provide mentorship to group members
  • enthusiasm to predominantly work to provide analytical support to on-going projects
  • eagerness to work within a vibrant team setting and interact regularly with international collaborators
  • 10+ peer reviewed publications in reputable journals

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The employment requires that you are ambitious, thorough and independent.
