Project assistant in Biology: Heat-sensing organs in various mammals - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

Work duties

The successful candidate will investigate the presence of structures specialized in heat-sensing in various mammals, following the findings that domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) are able to sense weak thermal radiation through their cold nose mirrors. Emphasize will be put on histological work, by which the candidate will look for the presence of cellular structures specialised in heat-sensing. The candidate will also perform observations on species that are likely to possess heat-sensing.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Education: Candidates with a master in Biology are eligible. Notions of physiology, cellular biology and molecular biology are required  
• Experience: Experience of working in a laboratory and conducting research projects. Experience of working with microscopes and dissections
• Knowledge: Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement, as we work in an international environment
• Competences: The candidate should be able to work independently and take initiatives. Good communication skills within the research group as well as with the other parties implied in the project are highly appreciated. A strong interest in research in general is necessary. Skills in statistical analysis, preferably applied to behavioural biology, are required
• Further requirements: A driving license is preferred for samples collection and possible experiments carried out outside the Biology building

Meriting

• Good writing skills for sceintific publications in English are appreciated
• Preference for candidates who have worked with histology preparations before, but not a compulsory requirement
• nowledge of Swedish is a plus, but not compulsory
• Having a personal vehicle is an advantage

Terms of employment

This is a fixed-term employment, 100 %, with a duration of 14 weeks and a preferred starting date of Dec.1st, 2020.
