Research group

The group is a neuroscience research group that examines disease mechanism in a number of brain disorders such as Parkinson’s s disease, Huntington’s disease, stroke and brain tumours with focus on Blood brain barrier changes. The group currently consists of four postdocs or researchers, one PhD student, three part time technicians and a research administrator (part-time). The work is performed under the supervision of Adj. Professor Gesine Paul-Visse, MD, Senior Consult Neurologist, at the Wallenberg Neurocentrum, BMC A10, where the group “Translational Neurology” rents lab and office space.  All equipment needed is available at our facilities and the strategic research network Multipark at LU (www.med.lu.se/multipark/technical_platforms): animal facilities, confocal imaging platform, cell culture facilities, NGS platform, MESO QuickPlex SQ120 and FACS facility. For proteomics we utilize the proteomic core facility at Sahlgrenska (https://proteomics.cf.gu.se).

We collaborate with several research groups, have weekly journal clubs and monthly lab meetings for presentation and discussion of research results.

Work assignments

The projects requires the student to perform a stroke model, prepare tissue for single cell isolation and bioinformatics analysis, cell culture models, qPCR, Westernblot, ELISA and proteomics, in vitro techniques for genetic manipulation of cells and to maintain and genotype transgenic mouse colonies, to perform behavioral analysis in stroke models and immunohistochemical stainings.

Qualification requirements

The candidate should have a Master in natural sciences, and special training in neuroscience is a merit. We expect the applicant to have experience in animal handling and behavioral tests, brain collection, cPCR, know basics of immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging and have basic experience in performing stroke models.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
